Distinctive Styles and Designs of Lingerie

The word lingerie instantly brings to mind sensuality, romance, and lovely bits of clothing women wear for various reasons.  Lingerie can be worn for support as with a brassier, for slimming and shaping as with a corset, or for pleasure as with a gown.  When shopping for lingerie, the experience can be overwhelming as the question often arises “What exactly are all these styles and designs and how do they differ?”  Thankfully, the bra fit specialist of Bits of Lace Fine Lingerie, are very knowledgeable, patient, and happy to help sort out all these questions.  But, if you are shopping online, or would like to know what style you desire before coming in to the store, hopefully this alphabetical synopsis will prove helpful for your lingerie purchasing experience at Bits of Lace Fine Lingerie.

Brassiers: With so many options to choose from, finding the perfect brassier can be a daunting experience! However, Bits of Lace carries the top brands and styles to ensure that you find your perfect match.  Although all properly fitted bras should be comfortable, if you are looking for a minimal support bra for a relaxed feel, the following are recommended: a bandeau bra, bralette, breathable bra, soft cup often called a wireless bra, foam lined cup bra, leisure bra also known as a sleep bra, a seamless bra, or a sports bra.  On the other hand if creating more cleavage is important, the following will prove useful: balconnet bra, demi cup bra, padded bra, or plunge bra.  If overall support is what you seek, then you may want to try one of the following: contour bra, darted-seam cup bra, full cup bra, full figure bra, minimizer bra, molded cup bra, or an underwire bra.  If you are trying to find a bra that won’t take away from your outfit by peeking through with standard straps, then these choices may fit your wardrobe: an adhesive or backless bra, multi-positional bra, racer back bra, standard strapless, or a convertible bra with straps that detach and can be arranged. There are also specialty bras such as the maternity bra, nursing bra, triangle bra, and the front closure bra.

Bustieres: Similar to a corset, a bustier works with your body to accentuate curves. However, unlike the corset, these one-piece wonders are often made of fabric with more “give” to them and are as easy to put on as a brassier.   This garment gently creates shape through the waist while lifting the breasts accomplishing practicality and fashion at the same time.  They come in a plethora of lavish colors, patterns, and fabrics depending on your unique style and may also come with detachable straps to be worn strapless or haltered.  It is truly a necessity for a lingerie wardrobe whether it’s for creating a little shape or as an alluring match to a sexy thong.

Camisoles: As often as these are worn under clothes, camisoles can also be worn as an outer layer for a little pizazz.  They are usually fitted with thin straps, some of which are adjustable, and are made from a variety of materials.  They come in several colors, patterns and may have a lightly supporting built-in shelf bra.  If worn as an under-shirt, an intricate lace detail may not be desired.  On the other hand, if worn with an outfit, then a fun lace pattern across the neckline or along the bottom may be just the outfit accent you’re hoping for!

Chemise: This style of lingerie is typically a short, sleeveless gown often with an A-line silhouette. To help eliminate confusion, sometimes these are referred to as “babydolls,” though wearing one of these flirty chemises will instill the feeling of being all woman!  These make a perfect addition to your evening lingerie collection and a fabulous way to show off your legs.

Corsets:  Much like bustieres, corsets come in various colors and materials where the sky is the limit.  The primary difference between the two is that corsets are sturdier with boning often made of steel, a reinforced lining such as silk, and they lace up the back, front, or both.  A corset should be properly fitted to your body in order to slim the belly, accentuate the hips, and support the breasts creating a lovely hourglass figure.  They can also be underbust (cupless waist cinchers) or overbust (standard).

Gowns: Sensual and comfortable, a gown is an excellent addition to any woman’s lingerie collection. Bits of Lace has gowns for summer, fall, winter, and spring; not to mention anniversaries, gifts, or simply to reward oneself.  Gowns range from ankle length to knee length and can be long sleeve, three quarter sleeve, or sleeveless and also come in a variety of colors and luxurious fabrics.

Panties: Quite possibly the most diverse article of lingerie with countless styles, colors, and materials.  The four most commonly encountered styles are as follows: bikini (moderate front and rear coverage with thin hip connectors and can be low or mid-rise), boyshort (wide, low rise cut that hugs the body and wraps comfortably around the hips often with cheeky cut in the back as shorter and far sexier version of the male boxer brief), full brief (most traditional style that flatters your natural waist and rests on the top of your thighs providing 360° comfortable coverage), seamless (fashioned from specialty fabric and invisible stitching for the look and feel of second skin as a panty that can be bikini, boyshort, brief or high waist).

Robes:  Whether they are made of practical cotton for wearing around the house or fashioned out of sultry silk for the bedroom, robes are a must have item.  With a variety of fabrics, fits, and lengths you can find the perfect full coverage robe for making breakfast with the children, an elegant yet not too revealing robe for relaxing on a spa vacation, or a short sexy kimono for some down-time with your spouse.

Slips: Normally associated with work attire, slips can be sexy too!   When worn under a dress or skirt, the bra and panty lines are erased instantly.  An assortment of slips are available with lengths ranging from the traditional 15”-36” in length (with or without a side slit) to more modern designs which include the strapless, seamless, and whole body shaping control slips.  With brands like Prima Donna and Farr West, the perfect slip is within reach!

Tap Sets: This is a matched top and bottom that functions as flirty, feminine night wear or lounge wear. This set is usually a camisole top and matching pair of petite shorts or boy shorts that are cute, fun, and incredibly comfortable.   Bits of Lace Fine Lingerie, carries a variety of colors, prints, and fabrics such as Peruvian Pima cotton, ultra-fine jersey cloth, or Modal fabric.

Teddies: This unique garment is a one piece in design created to accentuate your figure.  It is best compared to a tap set that has been united into one sexy look.  They can be sheer lace or seductive silk depending on your personal preference.  With designs by Hanky Panky and Mary Green, Bits of Lace is certain to help you find just the look you desire.

Thongs: These are the more risqué cousins to panties and Bits of Lace carries 5 different styles: original (broad waistband to stay securely around the hips and a wider, more modest back),  seamless (constructed out of material to fit comfortably and eliminate any chance of a panty line), low-rise (modern take on the original thong with a low waistband to lie comfortably across the hips which is perfect for low rise jeans),  G-string ( light fabric with a very thin waistband for wearing with tricky items such as clingy dresses, white slacks, and skinny jeans), luxury (sophisticated and sultry with full coverage across the front often with embellishments, and a classic thong back).
