From Paris to Charleston, Meet Our Newest Intern Catherine!

Catherine Intern

Spend just five minutes talking to Catherine Currin, and you’ll be amazed to hear all that she’s accomplished professionally thus far – and by the way, she’s only 21. From her study abroad experience in Paris, France where she dressed models at Paris Fashion Week to her on-campus internship position with Rent-the-Runway, Currin is quickly making moves to following her dreams of working in business and fashion. As a writer and event director for her University’s fashion publication, WFU Style, Currin has already dipped her toe into the pool of fashion writing and public relations. And, on top of it all, she still manages to maintain a high GPA. It goes without saying that we are more than thrilled to have Catherine join our team, and we’re excited to announce her as our newest intern!

Your experience in fashion thus far?

My experience in the fashion industry has been extremely varied but beneficial to my goals towards the future.  On campus at Wake Forest, I am currently the Event Director on the executive team for WFU Style. I am so proud of how far this club and blog has gone since it was first launched two years ago.  Probably the most beneficial experiences in the fashion world occured during my semester abroad in Paris last Fall. I had the amazing opportunity of volunteering at Fashion Week, seeing the ins and outs of one of the world’s most prominent events in Fashion. My study of Luxury Brand Management abroad was by far the most interesting, engaging, and relevant course I have ever taken. Some other highlights include sipping champagne at Chanel during Vogue Fashion’s Night Out and a private tour of Yves Saint Laurent‘s studio!

What are you most excited about learning from Bits of Lace?

I’m definitely excited to get more involved in social media directly, as well as taking a deeper look into the lingerie sector of the fashion industry. I feel that lingerie is sometimes a forgotten area of fashion in the United States, and I think its something that could potentially be as crucial to a woman’s wardrobe as her shoes. In Paris, there are as many lingerie shops as we have Starbucks!

Favorite Bits of Lace, Lingerie brand? Sleepwear brand? Swimwear brand?

I have not had a proper bra fitting yet, which I intend on getting as soon as I arrive…so I am hoping that Marie Jo will be my goto bra brand! I’ve been wearing Hanky Panky for years, and Eberjey is one of my new favorites. I’ve also been eyeing the Eres swimwear, which I love as well! I want to try their one pieces!

Who is your favorite fashion designer?

I definitely cannot choose one! To name a few: Alexander McQueen, Marc Jacobs, and Stuart Trevor & Kait Bolongaro (designers of All Saints).

What is your dream job or where do you see yourself in 10 years?

My dream job is working at Chanel for Karl Lagerfeld in Paris.  He is such an inspiration to my life as someone who is aspiring to succeed in the fashion world. We share a love for humor, Paris, reading, and of course, Diet Coke.

What do you love about Charleston?

I love that Charleston has the old Southern feel but it is still such an up and coming, on trend place in the world. It magically provides the feel of a small, Southern town combined with a large urban area.
